Gas or diesel? This RVer offers his opinion which is best
02/10/12
As a new RVer living full time in a gas powered 94 Bounder 34J, I think there is more to the question of which is best, a gas or diesel engine, than fuel type and difficulty in cold weather. I believe this additional information could be of importance to someone's final decision about which type of engine is best.
I'm researching the purchase of a new unit to live in, and as I look around I see the frame and axle ratings for the diesel/pushers are much heavier duty than any of the gas models. Not that the gas model frame isn't heavy enough for basic living, etc, but as a full timer the added weight carrying capability is a big bonus. I also see the frame/axle weight carrying capabilities being a bonus for those of us who want to carry additional two-wheeled vehicles on the back with plenty of horsepower, weight carrying/towing capabilities left over for a trailer or a TOAD than a gas-powered unit cannot accomodate. Let me re-phrase that, I haven't found a gas unit that can accomodate carrying a medium to large two-wheeled vehicle and still be able to tow.
Thanks for taking my input and for the wonderful site that has and is helping me convert from a military lifestyle to retirement.
